This is the street where I live - Rue de Rosiers in the Marais. Last week I saw someone walking a poodle that had been dyed purple & was wearing a pink vest!
My local grocery, at the other end of the street.
I'm not far from where this famous used bookshop is, opposite the Ile de la Cité.
This is the Japanese Garden at the Musée du Panthéon Bouddhique.

How did you manage to do these? Did you take a photograph and used it as a reference? Or did you sketch it in the street somehow? Color me curious. Oh, and by the way, they look awesome.

I like these very much. The compositions work nice. Your past city sketches are great, but these seem to have extra personality and charm. My Ronald Searle Paris sketchbook came in the mail! It was used and stinks like a musty trunk, but the drawings are so nice. I am looking forward to going down to China town and drawing.

Great Blog Matt. I was at a wedding in Paris a few years ago and we had breakfast in a Jewish bakery/cafe in the Marais. Lovely memories.
My gawd these are devine. Your beautiful drawing of the japanese garden made me want to cry. We were in Paris several years ago...good memories! These sketches make it feel like yesterday. You've got a deft hand and I like the way you spot in the darks. The poodle is just the right dash of colour. The shots of the walls are terrific too.
