Back home in North Wales recently I visited the Slate Mine Museum in Llanberis. The old workshops are full of wonderful contraptions & tools & heavy machinery. Didn't get a chance to draw much but took some shots for reference. The place is a mine(!) of detail & texture, useful for future layout jobs or design.

ReplyDeletefeck mon, I love stuff like this.
ReplyDeletereminds me of when I was in Denmark: close to Kopenhagen there's an entire village preserved in it's original old state- with little houses full of their original contents. I was amazed at the craftshops, such as the Smith's (with bellows and all that) and bakery(a mill!). I'll see if I can dig up some of the pics I took and post them. In films with sets like this(like bros. Grimm) they always seem to forget how much smaller people were back then
There is near my home an old train factory that has recently been turned into a museum.
ReplyDeleteThey retained one of the sheds in its abandoned state and from the looks of these snaps it's something you would very much enjoy.
I'd be more than happy to take some snaps for you.
Hey fellas, post your pics on your blogs & I'll check them out. There's something about the proportions & robustness of these old buildings & tools that is so much more appealing than an Apple Mac! I'd love to visit that old town in Austria that the village in Pinocchio is based on.
ReplyDeleteSo that's the house you grew up in, now it all makes sense!
