Amongst the great & good
Over on John T. Quinn's blog we've recently been having a discussion about getting banned from drawing in the great art galleries of the world. Ironically TATE Modern recently offered a special opportunity to draw after hours in the NUDE/LIFE section of their gallery which several of us London bloggers took full advantage of. Once we got passed security we managed to run rampant & transform a room full of priceless artwork into a charcoal stained playroom, throwing paper & crayons over our shoulders with gay abandon while the cluless tutor wittered on about 'soaking up the ambience'. I chose to use the Force instead & here are the results.

It's interesting to see how you, Matt and Stef draw the same model and each of you in their own wonderful way. I love the fact that you drew the other people drawing with you. That can often be much more interesting. Superb sketches you hairy Welshman.
Cheers Uli, wish you were there. Shall we book again for the 14th?
The 14th is sold out apparently, Matt tried already. Shame, we have to find somewhere to have some life drawing courses together, would be great!
I love the first page. This sketch of her standing up is the one for me!
Your drawings of the people around are great too!
Great sketches, matt.
I love the lady drawing c****.
Also the c**** is a great sketch!
Is great to see new post.
Thanks all. That fatlady was so funny, she was drawing on small, square, metal plates in grease pencil. She drew nothing but the model's c*** ALL evening! She had a fine collection of sketches of c***s from different angles. The weird thing was at the very last pose she went & stood right behind him & drew his shoulder! She'd clocked me drawing her & kept peeping at me - thought she wanted to draw my c***!
Shame it's fully booked next time. We'll have to hook up somewhere to draw each others c***s?
Do you mean c**ts or c**ks ? No wonder I'm having so much trouble, I don't know the difference.
Wonderful stuff Matt. There are people I recognise immediately- you have a fabulous knack for that. I love the old Superman model, I wish I'd drawn him but was on Lockdown in the other room.
We'll need these sketches for Crimewatch U.K if any crime is commited in the future! Well done P.C Numbnuts.
Lovely stuff...Darn!!! Wish i was in london for this...
hey am i still on to buy that book?...im down the 25th nov.
cheers!
Thanks fellas. Andy, the KIRAZ book is reserved for you my friend - still in the wrapper.
Can I have some SHIRAZ?
The only spaces left on the Life Course are on the 28th. Get on the Dog and Bone and order quick..........
you London fellers are so lucky to have opportunities like this- seemingly all the time. it's very tough to get inspired here in Munich, been to the zoo too many times(and alone- feeding off one another is essential me thinks).
I'm over for a week from the 23rd. see you then?
Good news Boris, shall we book you into TATE life drawing for the 28th?
Matt,
Love the sketches of the lady drawing the c***!! Funny story too.
We agree with Uli- You, Stef and Matt each captured the situation in different but equally fascinating ways! These drawings here flow ...great structure and gesture.
YES! book me! book me!
There was a girl in my life drawing class back in first year of college that had that 'habit' of drawing c***s too! She never did make it through that first semester. I wonder whatever became of her?
Anyway....
Lovely sketches and studies, Mr. Jones! Did it help inspire you being in a gallery of great art while you were sketching or was it somewhat intimidating?
No, it was totally cool & inspiring. The 'tutor' was gabbling on about people being intimidated by the artworks & not drawing them but THAT's why we were there! It cost £15 for a 2 hour session which is very expensive, to NOT seize the opportunity to incorporate the artwork into the drawings would have seemed a waste to me. Drawing in a room full of Matisse & Picasso gives an energy that I tried to use.
Thanks for the feedback Mike, funny story.
Great drawings Matt.!!
Cheers Shawn.
Boris we're on for the 28th. Sean & Uli, you have tickets too. Anyone else who wants to come call TATE booking on 02078878888
There's nothing I can offer here beyond envy really.
Lovely artwork as ever though!
