Despite intense work deadlines lately I've managed to do the odd bit of sketching in this fair city. . .
Out drawing with Mark Stanleigh on Nob Hill. See Mark's sketches here
The Mark Hopkins Hotel on California
(Here I tried out a nifty Pilot 'Parallel' pen-it's like drawing with a chisel!)

These are very good. I'm glad you get to see some daylight!
ReplyDeleteLove your sketches! Stop complain: you work for the next wordwide success film:)
ReplyDeleteMatt, these are gorgeous! I love how you put all those little details into the environments but still keeping it so loose and fun.
ReplyDeleteMatt these are great, however it sometimes baffles me how you still manage to draw after a hectic day at the office...
ReplyDeleteamazing - and this on top of al your "real" work? jaysus
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your town sketches, thumbs up to them. I also heard that some of the worlds best quality trannies are in San Fransisco... is that true? Like real german engineered trannies... the type of trannies you can drive over the pennines loads of times... proper trannies like the ones my grandad had no idea about
ReplyDeleteLovely sketches! Looking at all of these really makes me want to draw more outside of work.
ReplyDeleteWonderful work Matty!
ReplyDeleteSteve-mushrooms get more light than Story Artists!
ReplyDeleteCeline-sorry for moaning!
Avner-balancing detail while staying loose is the challenge
JP-I can't get enough of drawing!
Tomm-this is a release from the real work-just for pleasure
Mick-World Class trannies over here-completely assimilated into SF society- no one bats an eyelid at a 7 foot drag queen dressed up like an alien Star Trek nun!
Megan-Thanks! Get out more!
Crookie-this blog post is the reason I was late to the pub last night!
Great stuff Matt, love the idea of an impromptu life drawing session (it's not going to happen in Bristol at the moment - it's dark, blowing a gale and tipping it down). You should definitely teach drawing though ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE them all!!! Excellent work as always, Mr. Jones!
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I especially love the first one of Grant Tree. It makes me want to go see it for myself :)
ReplyDeleteholey moley...you can't MAKE UP characters like that. we only see that kind of "uniqueness" at starbucks...on halloween!
ReplyDeletewonnnnnderful sketches, mj! :-))
Love these sketches Matt! Just found your blog and it is very interesting and helpful as an aspiring animator!
