This is the street where I live -
Rue de Rosiers in the
Marais. Last week I saw someone walking a poodle that had been dyed purple & was wearing a pink vest!
My local grocery, at the other end of the street.
I'm not far from where this famous used bookshop is, opposite the
Ile de la Cité.
This is the Japanese Garden at the
Musée du Panthéon Bouddhique.
More street art-
The water you're drinking there has turned you into Tardí
ReplyDeleteHow did you manage to do these? Did you take a photograph and used it as a reference? Or did you sketch it in the street somehow? Color me curious. Oh, and by the way, they look awesome.
ReplyDeleteJust stood there & drew 'em!
ReplyDeleteLovely pink poodle. Reminds me of Elliots bitch.
ReplyDeleteA pretty picture of a pompous pink poodle. P-fabulous.
ReplyDeleteParis life looks beautiful!:OD
ReplyDeleteThis is all so gooood it looks like if you are blogging from heaven.
ReplyDeleteI like these very much. The compositions work nice. Your past city sketches are great, but these seem to have extra personality and charm. My Ronald Searle Paris sketchbook came in the mail! It was used and stinks like a musty trunk, but the drawings are so nice. I am looking forward to going down to China town and drawing.
ReplyDeleteOscar - you are my bitch.
ReplyDeleteWow...just, wow.
ReplyDeletelooks like you live in Ken Anderson world- got to love it! I'm jealous of your Jewish gay connections
ReplyDeleteyou see these mosaic tile space invaders around in the west end too..must investigate...
ReplyDeletefound the guy!-
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invader_%28artist%29
he is a french guy named invader and has been pasting these tiled game characters all over europe!
http://www.space-invaders.com/gmap.html
ReplyDeletecheck out the number of cities he has invaded!
Max - this country is manna from heaven - food for the soul & has re-invigorated my cultural mojo.
ReplyDeleteLoret - merci beaucoup, oui, j'habite dans le Marias- c'est tres genial mais trop cher! En Octobre je vais a Nice a travaille avec BiboFilms.
Dan- my garret flat smells like a musty trunk but it reminds me of those 2nd hand Searle books I left behind - sigh. However I feel like I'm following in the footprints of the great man himself. Moving to the South next month perhaps I'll bump into him in the hills of Provence?
Boris- you've always got Elliot
Gary- I encountered those INVADERS in London then saw them in NYC, Germany & they're ALL OVER Paris - however none that I've seen here are on his website - curious.
Karl - I'm living out my fantasy life & still not sure if I'm going to wake up. Surely if it was all a dream the tea would be better?
Thanks for checking in folks, a bientot.
Great Blog Matt. I was at a wedding in Paris a few years ago and we had breakfast in a Jewish bakery/cafe in the Marais. Lovely memories.
ReplyDeleteMy gawd these are devine. Your beautiful drawing of the japanese garden made me want to cry. We were in Paris several years ago...good memories! These sketches make it feel like yesterday. You've got a deft hand and I like the way you spot in the darks. The poodle is just the right dash of colour. The shots of the walls are terrific too.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
I really like these, the city scapes in particular.
ReplyDeletewould you believe i actually thought it was the marais before i read the caption! i lived on rue bourg-tibourg for a short time. good job! cool blog!
