Last week I joined the story crew of the other feature being produced at Aardman - 'PIRATES!'. On my first day Pete Docter & family came in to visit & posed for a photo with us briny rogues in story.
We have Captain Lord & Midshipman Rej Bourdages either side of Pete Docter. That's me with thumb in air next to able-bodied seaman Ash Boddy. On the right are Andy, Dave, Mike & Victoria.
Later that day Docter did a Q&A at the studio with Nick Park after screening UP.

How's the Q and A go with Docter and Company?
Nice to hear you moving onto another project there, Matt....Hope you're well.
The Q+A was short but informative. Docter told us they went through MANY script drafts & story reels. He initially wanted to make a movie with a 70 year old Indiana Jones -but they were beaten to it!
Fun post! love the lil character drawing at the bottom :)
Enjoy your new project!
I did some drawing for Pirates! some considerable time ago!
Hope all goes well with it!
Still loving your blog.
Hey Warwick - i happened across your designs on the server here-nice work. The movie's looking great!
That's brill that Aardman gets Pixar visits. Is that quite the norm to get visits from other studios there? Tidy!
Yeah-apparently Pete Docter has visited the studio previously. Aardman's films are well liked at Pixar I believe.
Pete Docter posted the same photo on his blog, he said he was so happy he finally met Matt Jones.
A bientot mon Ami.
Hah! Tres drole mon ami-
ahar!
glad you're on the crew my friend :)
Well, as a casual observer and fan of animation, this visit makes perfect sense to me. Pixar and Aardman seem to be the only studios out there getting both story and tone right. There's real passion and humor in the way stories are told.
