A banner year. . .

This must be one of the most interesting years for animated feature releases in the history of the medium. We saw the Simpsons Movie last night- it's thankfully brief, after an hour of non-stop gags it becomes slightly wearisome-like a long episode of the TV show. However it's very funny & the feature format allows the film-makers to break many TV restrictions; nudity, mild swearing & even sex!

  2. Well, in the 'animation community' there are always so many boring naysayers who lambast the state of 'animation today' but just look at what's on offer this year; the B&W story of a girl's life growing up in Iran, surreal Japanese thriller dealing with dream logic, stylish Japanese street punks direted by a Westerner, a satire of American family life & culture, a French set cooking rat, a Korean flick about poo & wee & surfing penguins.
That's not even mentioning the more suspect releases; Meet the Robinsons, Bee Movie, Shrek 3, Beowulf etc.
I feel that's a pretty interesting slate of movies in ONE year with a broad range of interesting subject matter.
