Rodin

The Musee Rodin is such a pleasant place to sketch in. Beautiful old building & gardens.

  1. Rodin was and is THE sculptor! Effortlessness in any scale, a master with clay! A small museum in Karlsruhe, Germany, had a rough clay sculpt of Rodin portraying his version of Christ. After school I used to meander to that museum and stand in front of it, gob-smacked and in awe, while my mum was waiting at home with a cooked dinner. I never got a picture of it, but the image is imbedded in my head. Would love to go back there one day and steal it.

  2. Yeah, there's no more powerful, dynamic sculpture than Rodin's - Michelangelo's are beautiful & divine but Rodin is unmatched for sheer energy.

    Thanksssss for the drawing bossssssss!!

  13. Beautiful images of the sculptures Matt! Nice adding the simply blocked tonals. I think the bottom one is my favourite, but they are all great! Thanks for the inspiration. Did you use a brush with wash or a marker to do the original sketches?

  16. Very confident studies Matt! I have to admit, I thought the same thing that Mr. Roberts thought too. Though, I suppose sketching is somewhat like journaling; capturing what you are seeing visually rather than writing it.
